Counselling for motherhood and matrescence
Motherhood can be beautiful and messy, expansive and overwhelming. You can love your child deeply and still miss parts of who you were before.
I offer in-person counselling in Storrington, West Sussex, and online sessions across the UK, giving you space to make sense of what has changed and feel more like yourself again.
What is matrescence?
Matrescence is the transition into motherhood. Like adolescence, it can bring significant changes to your identity, relationships, body, emotions and sense of self.
Some parts may feel joyful and grounding; others can leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected or unsure of who you are now. Both things can be true.
What this can look like day to day
-

The mental load never stops
Even when you sit down, part of your mind is still planning, remembering or wondering what you have forgotten.
-

You miss parts of yourself
You know you are still you, but your own needs and identity can feel much harder to find.
-

Guilt follows every choice
Taking time for yourself can feel selfish, but constantly putting yourself last can leave you running on empty.
Counselling is a place where you can say the things you may not feel able to say elsewhere. That might include feeling angry, resentful, lonely, overwhelmed or simply unsure of who you are now.
Together, we can look at the expectations you are carrying, what has changed in your relationships and how guilt or pressure may be shaping the way you see yourself. I will not tell you how motherhood should feel. We will make sense of how it feels for you.
A space where you do not have to pretend
